Leah Deschenes

Learning Support Team - Learning Assistance Teacher

About Me

Hi everyone! My name is Leah Deschenes and I am the Learning Assistance Teacher at WMS. This is my fifth year teaching at this school and I just love it. I taught Grade 6 LA and Social Studies for several years previous to becoming the LAT including a year out in Rocky Mountain House and then I taught both high school and elementary here and back in Ontario, where I am originally from. Previous to moving to Alberta, my husband and I lived and taught in Seoul, South Korea for three years and then Kuwait for another three years and then I have also done volunteer work in schools in Kathmandu, Nepal and in Ghana.  While we love traveling and seeing the world, though, we are pretty happy to be in Red Deer at this time to raise our family and simply enjoy life back in Canada. We have a 2 year old son and a 7 year old daughter, who keep us immensely busy outside of school life:)

As the Learning Assistance Teacher, my job here is  literally to help our students be as successful as can be and to help them reach their full potential. I specifically help to coordinate extra support for classrooms in whatever way is needed and I help teachers, EAs and parents with strategies and resources for their students.  If I can assist your child in any way possible, please don't hesitate to contact me at 403-347-8911 or leah.deschenes@rdpsd.ab.ca.

Thank you and I look forward to getting to know you and your child this year!
